The City of Ottawa, Kansas is recruiting for aUtilities Superintendent - Water Production.
The Utilities Superintendent - WP is responsible for planning, managing, supervising, and directing the activities and operations of the Water Production Division in order to produce safe, quality water in sufficient quantities to meet customer needs and state/federal regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide budgeting, purchasing, and financial oversight of the division.
Research and evaluate current and upcoming regulations, products, and treatment techniques.
Evaluate, direct, schedule, and train subordinate personnel.
Respond to customer service requests and work to resolve problems.
Operate various types of power pumps and related equipment as needed.
Supervise and conduct tests for alkalinity, chlorine content, pH, hardness, and calcium content; keep accurate records of tests.
Supervise maintenance of filter beds, pump hoses, motors, bearings, gear boxes, and all related equipment.
Work with operators to meet USEPA and KDHE regulations and to solve water quality problems.
Ancillary Job Functions:
Prepare necessary written documentation and reports for regulatory authorities.
Research and order chemical supplies; maintain inventory control.
Comply with all City ordinances and policies.
Assist other departments and perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and
Experience:
(Combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
)High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or some college credit preferred.
Minimum of five years of municipal water plant treatment and management experience in a surface water facility.
State of Kansas Class IV Water Operator Certificate.
(reciprocity from another state's certifying agency accepted)Must maintain a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
(not all inclusive)Thorough knowledge of water treatment equipment and materials, monitoring requirements, laboratory testing, report preparation, mathematics, and recordkeeping.
Knowledge of chemistry and maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of treatment requirements and ability to plan to meet future requirements.
Ability to operate chemical feeding equipment, pumps, safety equipment, laboratory equipment, filtration equipment, and other related equipment.
Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Working knowledge of accounting principles.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with other employees, City officials, businesses, and the public.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work under general supervision and make responsible decisions.
Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
Work Environment:
May be required to work in confined spaces or hazardous traffic conditions.
May be exposed to wet/humid conditions, inclement outdoor weather, vibration, extreme temperatures, oils, airborne particles/fumes, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, potentially hazardous bodily fluids, potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents/chemicals, or loud noise levels.
May be required to wear a respirator in certain situations.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
