The Community Development Department is currently recruiting for a Customer Service Representative.
The Customer Service Representative provides customer service support to both customers and staff.
Essential Job FunctionsProcesses building permit and contractor/construction trade license applicationsRecords permit information into permitting software database and maintains electronic and hard file property informationPerforms a wide variety of clerical work including written communication, file maintenance, handling records requests, and processing payment and refund requests for department related feesUpdates property files and notified other department of property address changesIssues building permits for approved plans and certificates of occupancy for completed projectsInforms project applicants of city requirements, processes, and deadlines from time of initial contact to completion of the projectReceives requests for, and schedules, building inspectionsUnderstands basic code enforcement and accepts and directs related phone calls or in-person inquiriesServes as first point of contact for the Community Development DepartmentProcesses planning division permitsCollaborates with the Building Official and City PlannerBalances cash drawer dailyAncillary Job FunctionsComply with all City ordinances and policies.
Assist other departments and perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum two years of related computer/software experience; four years preferred.
Must have valid drivers' license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilitieswhich may be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those commonly associated with this position.
Excellent attention to detail.
Organize/prioritize work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks concurrently.
Work under general supervision and make responsible decisions.
Use good judgment, think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, City officials, business entities, and the general public.
Understanding of basic accounting principles.
Ability to verify and correct work produced by others.
Produce accurate results under tight deadlines.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to communicate clearly with software support personnel.
Knowledge and experience with computer operating systems and computer hardware.
Basic knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Exposure to moderate noise levels and other general office conditions.

Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement and manual dexterity.

Residency:
Regular, full-time employees are required to establish and maintain residency within a driving distance of 35 miles of Ottawa City Hall within one year from hire.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
